More break-ins

IT WOULD seem that thieves find unattended narrowboats very handy for breaking into, with the spate of break-ins spreading.

Only recently we reported such break-ins at Middlewich on the Trent & Mersey Canal and at Yarnton and Thrupp on the Oxford, but now there has been a spate on the Avon at Bradford-on-Avon, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Simple padlocks

Last week a number of boats were damaged as thieves gained entry, mostly through wooden doors with simple hasp padlocks, with the police advising owners to take 'additional measures' to secure their boats.

The age old problem of course is that an unoccupied narrowboat, moored by the towpath, usually containing equipment, is too easy a target.
