Another Gloucester Docks plan

THE plans for Gloucester Docks come and they go—including one where British Waterways managed to lose £33 million, but here comes another.

Again it is a multi-million pound development, this time to develop the 4.5 acres Baker's Quay site and its buildings by the side of the waterway, Alan Tilbury tells us.

With the very slow take-up of Gloucester Quays shopping precinct, this time there are plans for a Premier Inn Hotel, a Brewers Fayre restaurant and a Costa coffee shop.

Dismal failure

However, a previous development for that particular site was a dismal failure, for as with the other dockside developments, it is cut off from the main city centre so does not get the crowds.

The planning application is expected to be submitted next month (April) for the redevelopment of the site, with its owner, Dick Bishop, being rather cautious after the first failure.

However, there is the stumbling block of listed buildings, two Grade II, that could cause problems.
