Email: Workable plan wanted

Published: Sunday, 20 January 2013

I seem to be seeing a lot of anti CaRT rhetoric around. It's about time that we boaters got our act straight. There are those (and I'm one) who would like to see something done about over stayers.

I get the feeling from the correspondence in narrowboatworld they want something done about it, but as soon as a plan is tried out there is a lot of shouting about spies.

So, how is it to be done? CaRT certainly doesn't have enough personel to do a proper job. More staff would cost us, the paying boater, more in licence money and we'd soon bark about that. I must admit I don't like the idea of spying on people, it has tones of the Gestapo about it, but someone smarter than I am should come up with a workable plan rather than just crying about the one being tried.

By the way, last year we were moored up in Milton Keynes on 48 hours moorings and had only been there a few hours when the owner of another boat, who turned out to be a trinket trader, came and asked how long we'd been there. I was happy to tell him, but my wife practically blew a fuse when I told her what had happened.
