I have just read your article about the inconsiderate moorers in Wheelock, the water point ones being mentioned. Thank you for this, we use the water point and facilities very frequently and are sick of the inconsideration of these boaters.
The one boat which is tied there at the moment is approx 65' and did have a mooring but decided that they would travel instead between Malkins Bank and Wheelock to avoid the mooring licence. We know from the lady of the non-residential boat telling us that this is the case. "I pay enough already," were her words.
The boat is moored just off from one of the two water points making it extremely difficult to pull in at times, the smaller second boat which is moored there has now prevented anyone reaching the water point altogether. I really don't understand why they haven't been moved on, after all the CaRT workers are using the toilet facilities each day and must have seen these boats here for weeks now.
Going on to the toilets, a massive thank you to the young woman who is cleaning the WC's and shower. She has done a stupendous job and those facilities are sweet smelling and clean for a change. Let's hope that the dog walkers of the village stop taking their dogs in after a mucky walk and clogging up the shower and leaving them filthy. Yes, some of the villagers do have a key to the facilities.
Now to my personal bugbear, the refuse skips which are a disgusting health hazard, they are almost always full with the overflow just lying at the side of the skips, rats are very prolific and even though we and numerous others have raised this point with British Waterway and CaRT, the skips are left in a terrible state.
The restaurant and the pub use the skips to get rid of their rubbish and the one for the recycleables is always filled with dirty cooking oil, wine bottles and beer bottles, though it is supposed to be for dry goods. Please could you take this matter up before we are left with a tip.
