Plans for Wood Wharf

Published: Sunday, 16 September 2012

There are plans for the development of Wood Wharf on the Thames at Blackwall, with  architects appointed to devise a master plan for the whole 20 acres.

The earlier plan is to be scrapped, with the new one to include 'a better mix than previously envisaged for offices, homes and shops'.

European style

It is to have a  European style of streets and squares and include waterside parks, with the usual  restaurants and cafés. A street market with space for performers is also envisaged.

It was Canary Wharf Group that acquired the full rights to develop the area earlier this year from previous joint venture partners British Waterways and Ballymore.

Cosultation

Public consultation begins later this year, with the application to be submitted to Tower Hamlets Council next year, with the first phase expected to begin in 2014.

The disposal of this lucrative site by British Waterways prompted an investigation by our Allan Richards: The big sell-off.
