THERE is to be a boatyard built on Brandy Island near Buscot Lock on the Thames despite opposition from the National Trust.

The plans, that have now been approved are for a 20 berths boatyard on the site of a former brandy distillery, that gave the island its name, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Treatment plant

Greg and Shirley Wheeler, who operate the boatyard at the Trout at Lechlade gained planning permission to convert an old water treatment plant into a boatyard.

Both the National Trust, local inhabitants and artistes objected to the the plans, but a spokesman for the Vale of White Horse District, that gave permission, explained 'there were no material planning considerations against this application'.
