Yobs fire charity boat

A CHARITY boat, used by volunteers to keep the waterway through Loughborough free from rubbish has been fired by thieves.

Clear Cut Conservation was formed in early 2010 to keep the Grand Union Canal through the town clean and tidy, with its volunteers going out every week to collect the rubbish thrown by and into the water, Alan Tilbury reveals.

But thieves broke in to the boat's moorings at the Peter le Marchant Trust premises, removed the outboard engine, but not satisfied with that, then set fire to the boat.

Though the fire brigade attended, the boat was destroyed, with the volunteers unable to find over £3,000 to replace it. They cannot understand why the thieves, though they stole the engine, had to destroy the boat.
