Important young lady

THE VIPs that will officially open the Northwich River Weaver Festival have one very important young lady amongst the party.

Katherine Dewar, aged 10, from Chester, was chosen from 35,000 entries in a nationwide competition to design the Queen's official 2012 Diamond Jubilee emblem run by BBC children's programme Blue Peter, writes Jim Forkin.

Appear on everything

The design (shown here)—which has a crown poised above the Union Jack alongside columns of diamonds—will appear on everything from posters to commemorative tea cups.

Katherine and her younger sister Eleanor, aged 8, together with her parents Mr. & Mrs. David Dewar are joining guests at the Anderton Boat Lift on Saturday 23rd June to be part of the VIP reception, and then cruise to the Northwich River Weaver Festival when it will be opened by HM Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.

At the rally there will be a special gazebo decorated to celebrate the Jubilee, incorporating Katherine's design, where special Jubilee Mugs will be on sale.

Transported by working boat

These mugs are being transported by working boat from the Etruria Festival (2nd and 3rd June), stopping at the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival (15th to 17th June) and culminating at the River Weaver Festival in Northwich (22nd to 24th June) - this trip is labelled as the Jubilee Run which is part of the Join-Us-In-June celebrations.

Katherine's logo will be on the mugs and of course, she will be on site and in attendance part of the time.

Highlights

Other highlights of the Festival will be over 100 boats attending the rally, with many historic boats, a spectacle in itself. Cheese will be on sale from the Cheeseboat, and Saturn (restored Shropshire Union Flyboat) will be in attendance to name but a couple.

There will be plenty of entertainment, both land and water based, including WoW (Wild over Water) activities for the children, many trade stands, craft demonstrations, musical entertainments and workshops throughout the weekend.
