Published: Friday, 23 March 2012

THE restored Shropshire Union Fly-boat Saturn will carry the runner bearing the Olympic Torch over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal.

This will be on the morning of Wednesday 30 May 2012, with the timing likely to be 09.10 at Trevor Basin. writes Harry Arnold.

Bow-haul

Volunteer members of the Shropshire Union Fly-boat Restoration Society will bow-haul the boat over the Aqueduct as they did at the 200th Anniversary celebration of this World Heritage Site (see attached image)

The Saturn Project—a partnership between the Shropshire Union Fly-boat Restoration Society and British Waterways North Wales & Border Waterways—is working with Wrexham District Council and the London Olympics Organising Group on the event and it is one of the latter's Alternative Modes of Transport designated photo opportunities.

At Ellesmere Port

Saturn can be seen at the start of its 2012 educational and event tour at the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port during the annual Easter Boat Gathering; where the Shropshire Union Fly-boat Restoration Society holds its AGM.
