THE boater who held armed police at bay from his narrowboat at Sandiacre on the Erewash Canal had been charged, and refused bail.

Wayne Green has been charged with eight offences after the 12 hours stand-off from his boat last Wednesday (14 March) moored opposite the Plough Inn, with the area cordoned off as officers, some armed, negotiated with the boater locked in his moored boat, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Helicopter

Altogether 20 officers were involved together with a police helicopter with ambulances standing by.

The police were alerted to the situation by postings on the networking websites Facebook and Twitter that the man had a gun and was holding a woman hostage.  When eventually arrested it was discovered he had neither gun nor hostage.

Remanded into custody

Wayne Green has been charged with failing to comply with a violent offender order as well as assaulting a police officer, and was remanded into custody by magistrates in Derby.

In addition, he is accused of two counts of criminal damage, one of threatening to cause criminal damage, threatening to kill and harassment under the Offences Against a Person Act and possession of class B drugs.
