Strange RSPCA advice

Published: Thursday, 15 March 2012

A MEMBER of the RSPCA involved in the rescue of a trapped swan has advised that the members of the public should not get involved when they saw animals in danger.

This seems rather strange advice, as it was given during the rescue of a swan that was trapped in the gates of Newark Town Lock this week.

Sensible thing

Surely the opening of the gate by a member of the public would have been the sensible thing to do, thus releasing the swan saving it from prolonged distress whilst the services arrived.

However both the fire service and the RSPCA attended the incident releasing the swan after it became trapped fighting another.  It was here that a member of the crew gave the advice.
