Big Lock pub reopens

THE canalside Big Lock pub on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Middlewich has reopened after it closure for refurbishment of its interior.

The pub is next to the Big Lock on the waterway, hence its name, this being the second closure, the last time for rebuilding work two years ago, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Took over last year

Mark and Julie Dunning took over the pub last year, and the work includes a new bar, fixtures and a fireplace, which will create a centrepiece.

The pub is widely used as it has tables right by the side of the lock, and is popular with both boaters and walkers.

New chef

Meals will still be provided, with a new chef being taken on, with Julie, who has been in the licenced trade for around 30 years, remarking this will take the pub's menu up one notch further.

During the main boating season from April and September, it is intended to create a coffee shop in the mornings at the area by the waterway.
