Email: Lack of back pumping

Published: Saturday, 03 September 2011

I came through Calcutt locks yesterday which were extremely busy with hirers trying to get through the flight before the four o clock lock-up deadline, and there was certainly no back-pump in operation.

This would return water back up to the Braunston pound where it has been reported it is desperately needed which seems to add more weight to the theory that shutting the pumps off is more of a financial rather than mechanical decision.

I really do suggest that somebody doesn't wave a collecting bucket in my face begging for money to support the new waterways charity without first having a water-tight explanation as to why, for years, my licence fee has been supporting Fat Cats 'justified' bonuses rather than the maintenance of the canals for what it should have been intended.
