THE Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival, that has had a rocky time through lack of money, is now secured for the next few years.

The water company United Utilities had agreed to become a lead sponsor for the event, with a three years commitment to support the town council with its event, and a £2,000 donation towards the  music and entertainment throughout the town centre at the festival that has recently been staged.

More cash

The company has promised more cash for the next two years, with Mark Clinton, United Utilities Project Engineer, explaining:

"Sponsoring the Folk and Boat Festival seemed like a great way of thanking the community for bearing with us during all the engineering work of our sewer scheme."

A town council spokesman told that 'its contribution will help us to take over the running of this free, celebratory family event, despite difficult economic times. The sponsorship was invaluable to keep us going and will be invaluable in the future to help us grow the event'.
