WHILST MOST WATERWAYS have now recovered from lack of water, the Oxford Canal has not.

Though at present reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

Lack of water

The pounds between locks 17 and 33 have been suffering lack of water for navigation since the 5th August but now we are told the pounds are  currently remain within a normal operating zone for navigation and this area of canal will remain open at this time.

However it is also told that the excess water levels experienced due to heavy rain we recently experienced are receding.

And it is likely the teams will have to run water during the day to balance pounds as they strive to maintain an open navigation between locks 17 to 33, with it just being described as a 'window for navigation'.

Possibility of a leak

With still the warning of attempting to balance pounds, together with the long closure it would seem there is the real possibility of a leak that is causing the problems.

With other stoppages on the waterway it is little wonder that the Oxford Canal, we are told, has little traffic.
