Better moorings at Hebden Bridge

THE moorings at Hebden Bridge on the Rochdale Canal have been repaired, and are now much safer.

One boater complained in narrowboatworld of the state of the popular moorings at Hebden Bridge, stating they were dangerous with rotting timber causing part of the moorings to slope dangerously.

Removed rotting timber

But now British Waterways has removed the rotting timber, with oak posts put in their place and anti slip surfaces installed, making it all safer and tidier for boaters.

The site has also been re-stoned to help tidy up the area and a small fence has been built to prevent cars from parking near the site.

Real difference

Stephen Ballard, Waterway Supervisor for British Waterways Manchester & Pennine tells us:

"The improvements have made a real difference to the mooring service, it is much safer and the changes have enhanced the appearance of the canal.

"The work put in place should help boaters enjoy their time along the canal in a safe and relaxing way and as the canal is such an asset to Hebden Bridge it is important we maintain all aspects of it".
