Linton gates go in

AFTER 25 years the gates of Linton Lock were deemed past their 'sell-by' date, and have been replaced.

As part of its annual maintenance, British Waterways have undertaken a £120,000 lock gate replacement to the Grade II Listed Linton Lock on the Ouse over the last few weeks. Simon Henry's photograph shows a gate being lowered into position.

Alongside Linton on Ouse, Linton Lock is situated  just over a mile downstream of Swale Nab, where the  Ure changes to the Ouse.

The old lock gates were craned out last week and replaced by new ones made at British Waterways' Stanley Ferry Workshop.

However, recent heavy rainfall during the project also meant the works were called to a halt a number of times, as rising flood waters made the site unworkable.
