The Weaver closed

HOT on the heels of the closure of the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal, comes news that the Weaver too is closed by a problem at Saltersford Lock.

The stoppage notice from British Waterways tells that 'there is an obstruction under one of the top gate paddles'.

However, it is Iain Martlet who points out that that particular lock does not have gate paddles—only ground paddles, as can be seen in the picture.

As it is not possible to drain the river, it will need divers to investigate the problem before work can commence, that will take 'up to five days', resulting in passage being stopped all of this week.
