THE SINK HOLE ON LOCK 5 of the Rochdale Canal has now been repaired.
And the lock to be reopened as the water level increases, Keith Gudgin reports.
Sink hole discovered
It was on the 24th June that the sink hole was discovered at Edward Kilner Lock 5 as workers were attending to Lock 6, it requiring repairs.
Lock 5 was closed until repairs have been carried out.
The repairs to Lock 5 have now been accomplished with the water level recovered over the week-end.
Lock 6
Lock 6 was closed due to the ashing of the lock gates which will help to retain water and allow the water levels to recover.
The water has now recovered and the navigation reopened.
