No canal here says public

THE long running saga of a marina and eventually a canal in Daventry has been given the thumbs down by the residents.

For years the council has been promoting a marina in Daventry, prompted by developers who want to build around it, even though there is no canal, which the council hoped would come later.

But the residents of the town have shown they want neither marina nor canal, for in a referendum carried out on Monday (22nd March), they voted against it.  The result of the referendum was 2303 voting against the council's plans, 721 in favour of the plans.

However, the results are not binding, so it still may not be the last we hear of this very expensive scheme.
