THE SPIRIT OF ENDEAVOUR, that organises trips on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, is looking for volunteers.

The request comes from the first ever female skipper of Skipton community boat Richard's Endeavour who is appealing for more volunteers to come on board.

Sally Goodman, pictured, is the first female master in the history of Spirit of Endeavour, the charity that owns the narrowboat which offers accessible and affordable trips along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

The boat, originally called Endeavour, was renamed Richard's Endeavour in honour of former chairman of Skipton and Craven Action for Disability (SCAD) and founder of Spirit of Endeavour, Richard Clarke, who died following a short illness in 2023.

Sally Goodman, one of the trustees of Spirit of Endeavour, who qualified as a skipper towards the end of last year, tells the charity is urgently seeking more volunteer crew members, she remarking:

If I can do it...

"If I can do it, anyone can. If you enjoy fresh air and are fit enough to step on and off the boat, handle ropes and open bridges, please contact the charity."

Richard's Endeavour which is moored on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal behind Skipton Hospital, is a 55ft boat licensed to take up to 12 passengers, including four in wheelchairs, with a lift installed.
