THIS MONTH OF MAY proved to be the worst this year for stoppages on the system controlled by Canal & River Trust.
With a total of 35 stoppages recorded, as the season started in earnest.
The worst
The worst was the Huddersfield Narrow that finished being closed completely—from end to end. The picture shows us climbing the Pennines on the Huddersfield Narrow in better times.
With others of the Pennines still suffering with the Leeds & Liverpool having five stoppages in the month.
The Rochdale too was more closed than it was open, with our being told today, that it is still closed between locks 1 and 4, and no entry to the navigation through Tuel Lock.
Another closure is on the Calder & Hebble that has paddle problems as it also did earlier this month.
Three months to repair
And of course there is the breach on the Macclesfield that on the 7th April Canal & River Trust told will take three months to repair!
Our thanks to Keith Gudgin for all his reports, that allows us to show the actual state of the waterways
And what a mess.
