THE RESULT of Storm Darragh was hundreds of trees blocking the waterways.

Continued to be felt

The impact of the storm on the waterways is continuing to be felt a week after, and will be for a while.

Canal & River Trust has been working to clear the felled trees and the debris in the canals from the cuttings such as Woodseaves.

There has been a great impact on boaters with many caught-out from their moorings and those unable to reach necessary services owing to blocked waterways.

And those already delayed by stoppages now having problems reaching their winter moorings.

TreeOnBoat'A trail of carnage'

A spokesman for the trust tells it has 'left a trail of carnage' with an estimated 400 trees felled by the storm.

It is costing the trust thousands of pounds for contractors to remove the trees and the debris, with the costs still of course mounting.

It is money the trust can certainly ill afford.

And there are boats struck by falling trees who certainly did not take notice when Victor told not to moor under trees in windy weather...
