Enable the focus on repair
The three sided dam with clay core was constructed around the breach by the Hollowforth Aqueduct on the Lancaster Canal, as previously reported.
The structure was covered with tarpaulin sheets for protection, and the dam itself was then protected by floating pontoons.
More work then enabled a temporary boat passage for 10 days, allowing boats to pass both North and South and so transit the Ribble Link.
The picture shows the breach by the aqueduct.
Drain middle section
Following the final boat passage, Canal & River Trust will reinstall two dams North and South of the breach, though much closer together, and then drain the middle section of the canal.
This will allow the removal of the temporary three-sided dam and focus on the repair solution for the embankment and aqueduct.
