And another sinks

THE owner managed to escape from this narrowboat when it suddenly sank in the Lee near Bow Bridge at Bromley-by-Bow.

The owner scrambled off his boat though it meant jumping into the water as it was too far from the bank, Alan Tilbury tells, as the boat sank through the ice.

A passer by saw the man jump into the water, and so alerted the police, who attended together with two ambulances, with the paramedics assessing the man at the scene but he was not taken to hospital.

British Waterways are now involved in removing the boat from the waterway.
