HERITAGE of the canals is a key feature these days but on the Leeds & Liverpool things are different.
Half mile fence
The owners of Botany Bay at Chorley have erected a large fence for about half a mile alongside the towpath.
The fence has been erected on the canal side of the hedge. This now blocks off the milestone markers which Canal & River Trust spent a great deal of time renovating and also putting in new ones.
The fence also stops anyone using the bench which was a useful resting place. So much for improving the canal environment.
Another eyesore
Another eyesore further up the canal can be found at the Blackburn Locks.
Blackburn is always a difficult place to keep looking tidy with a lot of rubbish thrown into the canal. However this isn’t helped as the weed and litter that collects in the lock by-washes is just dumped and left there.
The picture attached shows weed and rubbish that has been left there for the last year...
