THE Canal & River Trust has admitted that the breach on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will not be repaired until the end of March.

RishtonLLBreachThe breach between bridges 109 and 110 at Rishton occurred on the 11th of October and it was in November that access was made to the site, but it will not be until March next year when it will be repaired.

Reopened

Dams were installed between New Barn (109) and Aspen (110) bridges following the culvert failure in October with pumps installed to raise the water level to allow Barrowford, Johnson’s Hill and Wigan lock flights to be reopened in late October.

No intimation is given as to why the breach will take four months to repair.

Also the failed wall at Gargrave Lock means it too will also remain closed until the end of March.
