Concerns about Ratcliffe Lock

Published: Saturday, 31 July 2021

IT WOULD seem that our visit to Ratcliffe Lock on the Soar has caused 'concerns' at Canal & River Trust!

It is taking great pains to point out that the lock is now closed after we published details of our visit and had spoken to a boater who had just come though the lock.

The trust maintained that a lock gate was at an angle, whilst our inspection and photograph clearly showed this was untrue.

Which leaves boaters on the river in somewhat of a quandary as to whether the lock is open or not, and pestering for correct information.

Concern

This is causing concern with the trust that is telling the lock is closed to navigation.  However it is no longer stating that a gate is at an angle, as obviously it is not, but now maintaining 'the lock gates are not positioned correctly'.

We are told the  engineering team are working in the background drawing up plans for a safe repair.
