Will the boats get to Crick Show?

Published: Thursday, 29 July 2021

CRICK Show is held on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal.

But the continuing stoppages on this waterway could cause problems to those using the navigation to get to the show that will be held in just four weeks time.

Problems

Not only are there the locks where it is impossible to equalise the water to be able to open top gates due to bottom gate leakage, but silt has become a problem through lack of dredging.

Many traditional deep draughted boats attend Crick Show, with already one being grounded and having to be pulled off the silt near Bishop Meadow Bridge.

Use the waterway

Most of the new boats on show are transported to the venue, but there are many traditional boats and those selling wares that use the waterway to attend.

With the trust involved perhaps an effort will be made with the dredging at least.
