Buckby flight closed again

BUCKBY Flight on the Grand Union Canal is closed once again by a cill failure.

It was lock 10 of the flight that was losing water by a broken bottom gate cill and and upon inspection the cill was found to be in a much worse condition then expected, Keith Gudgin reports.

Have to be replaced

When the lock chamber was drained it was soon realised that the cill would have to be replaced, which will be undertaken, with the flight now closed, and no intimation of its reopening.

It was in that early week of August of this year when five closures closed five canals, that Lock 12 on the flight suffered the same problem of a cill failure that closed the flight for just under two weeks.

At that time a date for reopening was given but had to be extended as the work was not completed in time.
