WE REPORTED TWO NAVIGATIONS were reopened on Thursday after stoppages.
Yesterday, Friday, there were three more reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.
Rochdale Canal
It was a broken paddle that closed the Rochdale Canal on the 9th September.
Navigation was currently closed at Slattocks Lock 56, due to a fault with the mechanism that operates the paddle, it preventing it from being opened.
This was a long stoppage as work did not commence until the 30th September, but was then completed in two days.
Staffs & Worcs Canal
We were told that it was a boat impact on the bottom gates of Ebstree Lock 27 on the 26th September.
But a brace to the lock beam was required to complete the repair, with welding works completed and the navigation reopened.
Leicester Section
It was on the 20th of August that Zouch Lock 55 on the Leicester of the Grand Union Canal was closed to navigation while emergency repairs were carried out to the lock gates.
This required the site dewatered and repairs to the lock cill, lock gate mitre and replaced two paddles.
It all taking two months to complete.
