A BROKEN gate has closed the Kennet & Avon Canal at Wooton Rivers.

Heathy Close Lock (52) has suffered a broken bottom gate and is no longer useable, Keith Gudgin reports.

It was advised today (Friday) that engineers will be visiting the site to examine the damage and will arrange repairs as soon as possible.

Leeds & Liverpool

Lock 7 on the Rufford Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has failed, with engineers needing to install dams to inspect the damage that has caused the failure

It is expected that dams will be installed next Wednesday the 25th so that the damage can be inspected and a decision made as to repairs.

Aire & Calder

Another lock has been silted up by the recent flooding on the Aire & Calder, and passage through Beal Lock is not possible.

This means both the lock and its approach will have to be dredged before navigation is possible.
