Work needs doing again after 19 months

MANY of you will no doubt remember the lock where it took five days to instal two strips on the bottom gates

The two strips on Ervin's Lock on the Leicester Section, pictured, were to re-line the bottom gate mitres, taking all of five days to undertake.

Irvins Lock stripsAgain be closed

Such was the standard of work that next Monday the lock will again be closed to 'carry out further water saving work' that includes 'the relining of the bottom gate mitre, repairs to the cill and removal of silt'!

Yet this same work was undertaken just 19 months back in September of last year! But there is a difference. Last year it took five days, but this time it will take two weeks, from April 1st to the 15th.

At Whetstone too

At that time Whetstone Lane Lock was also closed, for 'water saving work' yet again the same thing is happening to that lock too, and again these works include relining of the bottom gate mitre, cill repairs and removal of silt.

Both locks had this 'water saving' work done, yet just a year and a half later they both need the very same thing again!  There is something very wrong here...
