THE Chesterfield Canal Trust has latched onto the Open Days at Feeder Lock 38 on the restored Chesterfield Canal, by presenting a candlelit walk during the evening.

The drained lock on the Turnerwood Flight on the Chesterfield Canal will be open to the public to inspect from 10am to 4pm on the 11th and 12th March, with an exhibition of old photographs.

Mile of towpath

After this The Chesterfield Canal Trust will install a candlelit walk along the mile of towpath from Shireoaks where walkers will encounter the installations with flame, bubbling water fountains and great balls of fire made by artistic wizards pa-BOOM.

At the lock the Derbyshire based ‘Dirtmarket' will dance, the energy of its troupe reflecting the energy of the water, with Mr Q Estion with words and rhythms celebrate the life, times and hidden histories of the place and people, with expert improvising musician Tim Hill weaving  magical musical themes around the site.

Come dressed and booted

Refreshments will be available, but come dressed and booted for a mile long walk from Shireoaks and bring a torch, remembering that there is no parking in Turnerwood, so the walk from Shireoaks is a must, though the  Sheffield/Lincoln train line has a station at Shireoaks by the canal.
