THE cause of the closure on the Kennet & Avon Canal, is a broken pump at Bradford on Avon Lock, that cannot be repaired in situ, so there will be a delay in re-opening the navigation.
The pump requires to be lifted out to facilitate further examination and to see if it can be repaired, Keith Gudgin tells us.
No lifting gear
The engineers are unable to do this as there is no lifting gear on site, and are awaiting the means to be able to lift the pump so that it can be further investigated.
LATEST:We are told the pump was repaired and the waterway re-opened this morning (Monday).
