READERS may remember the 'leak' on the Macclesfield during June that proved to be something of an inferior repair as not long after it re-opened it leaked again.

It was later that month, on the 27th June, that that we were told that the leakage had been stopped and were 'cautiously optimistic about the repairs and remain committed to keeping the canal open during the coming weeks and months. We will continue to monitor the embankment and bed repairs for signs of leakage and will take steps to safeguard the canal as necessary. We will provide updates if this situation changes'.

Now open

Then on Tuesday of this week we were told in a notice from Cart:

'The canal is now open.'

We know the canal has not been closed for the five weeks since the 27th of June, so what is it all about?

If we have a notice stating the canal is now open, then it obviously must have been closed, though no stoppage notice was received—which surely cannot mean that CaRT have stopped telling of stoppages...  Why should it do that?
