THREE boats were destroyed by fire at Bordesley Basin on the Grand Union Canal in Birmingham this week.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at the basin nearing midnight on Wednesday, that is situated at the junction of the Grand Union Canal and the Digbeth Branch, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Completely burnt-out

The fire was well established, and the firefighters were unable to save two that were completely burnt out with a third suffering 80% damage.

A spokesman for the fire service stated that the fire was being treated as arson. The LPG cylinder store was some way from the scene, and was safe.
