Canal murder enquiry

THE police have launched a murder investigation after a the body of a man was discovered in Sankey Valley Park on the Sankey Canal near Warrington.

A man is being questioned in custody having been arrested on suspicion of murder, Alan Tilbury tells us.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the victim, who has not been named, as he has not yet been formally identified.

With a fishing competition being held on the waterway near the scene, the police are asking for witnesses to an altercation between two men.
