THE WRENBURY LIFT BRIDGE 20 on the Llangollen Canal 20 faces a long closure.

It was stuck by a vehicle that caused extensive damage, Keith Gudgin reports.

So much so, that the bridge superstructure has now to be dismantled making the site safe and transporting the timber sections to the trust's yard at Preston Brook, where they will be stored until they can be rebuilt.

Start date awaited

Approval from Historic England has been granted and confirmation of a start date for repairs from the contractor is awaited.

Once the start date has been agreed work can begin on the lift bridge repairs.

But the navigation remains closed as the bridge is in the position for road traffic, and of course cannot be lifted in view of its condition.
