THE ROW BETWEEN BOATERS and residents still goes on over a lock on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

This is when Lock 20W is filled it leaks into the neighbouring property, Janet Friend reports.

Boats grounded

The problem for boaters is when it is emptied to save the properties being flooded it leaves the the short pound above short of water with boats then becoming grounded.

This lock near Greenfield has become the source of bad feelings between boaters and householders, culminating in unofficial notices appearing stating that the lower paddle be left up to empty the lock after a boat had gone up to save flooding.

But these were quickly removed by boaters as it left the pound above then being too low to navigate.

Alas these were then replaced, and so it goes on.

Sewage overflowed

The problem for residents in the properties is that if  the lock was not drained, sewage from a nearby pump house overflowed and ran into their properties.

The only solution it seems would be for Canal & River Trust to plug the leak.
