THE NATIONAL LOTTERY Heritage Fund has given £210,000 to restore an historic work boat.

The narrowboat Kilsby, was built in 1912 by Fellows Morton and Clayton, Janet Friend reports.

The boat, that survived two world wars was later transformed into a residential boat with moorings in Oxford on the Oxford Canal.

With the money from the fund the boat will be turned into one for the community, as a hub for arts, heritage, and community activity on the Oxford Canal.

It was 2019, when Kilsby was donated to the Jericho Living Heritage Trust in an uninhabitable condition, but was salvageable with volunteers and donors making ongoing contributions to support the boat.

Share the heritage

The Jericho Living Heritage Trust was originally founded in 2012 and has been working to protect, celebrate, and share the heritage of Jericho and its neighbourhood, which includes Oxford’s canal and riverside communities.

When the work is completed the boat will include boat trips, festivals, creative workshops, performing arts and heritage skills training.
