AFTER dewatering again two holes have been discovered on the Macclesfield Canal at Bollington.
These are between Sugar Lane Bridge 26 and Kerridge Road Bridge 27.
Discovered on Thursday
The holes were discovered on Thursday after the stop planks were inserted and the section drained and then inspected for the second time this month.
Work has stated removing silt and debris from the bottom of the lock and packing one hole with clay using the workboat's digger.
However, the arm of the digger is not long enough to reach the second hole, so this means the boat needed to be refloated and moved into a position where it can reach the second hole.
This of course required the section to be filled with water, the digger moved into a new position and then the section dewatered.
Reopened today
This was all carried out yesterday, Friday, with the waterway expected to be reopened today, Saturday.
The waterway was first closed on the 18th of this month, with the leak attended to, but then failed again on the 24th, as the two holes were obviously not discovered during the first inspection when the section was dewatered.
