Two head gate paddles fail at same time

THERE has been no few failures of gate paddles on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

But this latest paddle failure is the worst, reports Keith Gudgin.

Two head gate paddle failures at the same time.

Paddles totally inactive

This occurred on lock 32W at Dobcross at the entrance to Standedge Tunnel, when boaters attempted to go through the lock they being unable to let water into the chamber as both paddles were totally inactive.

Canal & River Trust state that the matter is being investigated  and once the cause is understood will attempt to solve the problem.
