A MAN HAS TRAGICALLY DIED after his car plunged into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Saltaire at the weekend.
The police confirmed the 74 years old man had died, Keith Gudgin reports.
Emergency services rushed to scene after being alerted, and an officer went into the canal and managed to get him and onto the towpath with help from others of the emergency crews.
Medical treatment was then carried out, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
West Yorkshire Police was called at 6.45pm on Sunday 7th to reports that a car had gone into the canal at Saltaire and it was discovered to be a Range Rover Evoque.
The police statement:
'Police are investigating after a fatal road traffic collision where a man has died in Saltaire.
Officers were called at 6.45pm last night (Sunday 7 December) to reports that a car a silver Range Rover Evoque had gone into the canal at Hirst Mill Crescent, Saltaire.
Emergency services attended and officers entered the water and rescued a man from the vehicle.
Medical treatment was given to a 74-year-old man but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area prior to the collision or who saw the vehicle enter the water'.
