A POLICE OFFICER who pulled a man out of a canal had his car hit by a brick by a vandal just beforehand.
The officer then jumped into the freezing Leeds & Liverpool Canal to try and rescue a driver after a crash.
Stark reminder
In a post on Facebook, the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team told:
"The incident was a stark reminder of the challenges our officers face every day.
"This mindless attack not only damaged a police vehicle but could have caused serious injury or worse.
"Attacks like this are not just part of the job. They take a toll on those who put themselves in harm's way for the public.
"Every brick thrown, every act of hostility, impacts real people who are doing their best to keep communities safe."
Without hesitation
Despite the attack PC Everett, had without hesitation gone to the aid of the man whose car had crashed into the water in Saltaire.
The driver was later pulled from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene.
