THE POLICE WERE CALLED to the Bridgewater Canal yesterday morning.
To discover the body of a woman in the waterway at Altrincham, reports contributor I Dugald Campbell.
Emergency services were quickly at the scene with the canal towpath cordoned off while a search was made, with the woman soon spotted by the the specialist police team carrying out the search in the area. Photograph by Altrincham Today.
Body was found
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the body of a woman was found in the water. Officers are working to find out her identity.
In a statement, the police reported:
"Shortly before 8.30am on Wednesday 10th December 2025, officers were called to Atlantic Street, Altrincham to reports of a body in the water.
"Emergency services attended and sadly the body of a female has been recovered from the water. Officers are currently working to establish her identity to inform and support her loved ones, and the circumstances surrounding her death."
