Atherstone Flight closed

ATHERSTONE Flight on the Coventry Canal is at present closed.

The top gate of Lock 10 came out of its cup and is now inoperable, Keith Gudgin reports.

Some urgency

This is being treated with some urgency as there are many boats already awaiting passage with the flight being closed yesterday, Wednesday, and approaching the busiest week of the year.

Engineers are already on site, but this depends on whether the gate can be put back in position, otherwise the lock has to be drained, it turning out to be a more extensive procedure.

A similar occurrence on the Kennet & Avon Canal took a week to repair.
