Man rescued from sunken boat

THE man on the narrowboat that sank in the Rochdale Nine lock had to be rescued by the emergency services.

The emergency services received a report that a boat had sunk with a man stranded on its roof unable to get out, I Dugald Campbell reports.

This prompted a major response with fire crews and the ambulance service attending, with them finding the boat with its stern on the cill and sunk, as the photograph shows.

The fire people lifted him off the boat with paramedics assessing his condition, but he did not require hospital treatment.

Inside destroyed

It was reported the inside of the boat appears to have been destroyed by water, with various objects seen floating inside, and told that it was not known why the boat sank.
