And still an Oxford lock fails—and is repaired!

THE locks on the Oxford Canal are continuing to fail.

ClaydonMiddleLockOnce again it is Claydon Flight that is out of action with Claydon Middle Lock (19) having failed, yesterday Wednesday, Keith Gudgin reports. Already it is reported there are queues at both the top and bottom of the flight.

Closed twice

It was during June that the Oxford was closed twice caused by a rotten balance beam having to be replaced and a lift bridge breaking down, clearly showing its lack of maintenance.

This particular stoppage has brought about a new reason—'lock gate component failure'—that as Keith remarks—the reasons get weirder too!

At least the 'wait until it breaks then mend it' policy is being sorted as the navigation was reopened this morning, with it closed just one day.
