Another lock gate is unseated

ANOTHER lock gate has come out of its mounting closing a waterway.

A gate of the middle lock of the Bunbury Flight on the Shropshire Union Canal has come out of its mounting and needs replacing, Keith Gudgin reports.

No bow fenders

It is not stated how this was unseated, but there are now many boats without bow fenders that in rising water can either sink or take out the lock gate.

However, a crane is needed to replace the gate, that usually takes a long time to arrive, whereas an 'A' frame and block and tackle would easily do the job quickly.

But such equipment is no longer available after the sale of tools and equipement when Canal & River Trust took over.
